Prom Chaperones Needed

April 06, 2008, Sunday
Chaparral Parents,

Prom is known to be the most prominent school event of the year for our upperclassmen, and it is coming up very quickly. This year, Chaparral’s Prom is being hosted at Monterra at Westworld on April 26th from 8 to 11 PM; however, we need chaperones to make this night successful! If you are at all interested in lending a hand, whether your child is attending Prom or not, the help would be greatly appreciated. We need all the help we can get, so the more the merrier! Remember, this night comes once a year and is remembered by the junior and senior class for years to come. Prom night is only a few weeks away, so don’t miss your chance to help make Chaparral students’ night even better. If you have any questions about or interest in helping out on Prom night, please contact Mrs. Maccoll at 480.484.6500 ext. 5214 or jmaccoll@susd.org.

ATTENTION SENIOR PARENTS: "Memory Lane"

April 02, 2008, Wednesday
As graduation approaches, it time to reflect upon all the wonderful memories our children’s lives have brought to us as we celebrate this magical time. “Memory Lane” is a Chaparral tradition. We need your help to surprise our graduates. Each family is asked to create a collage filled with photos of their graduate’s life. The collages will be displayed at Senior Breakfast. The students seek out their collage, laugh at each other’s baby pictures and reminisce over the times they have shared together. The graduate will bring their collage home after breakfast. The collages can be enjoyed for years to come.

To start: gather pictures (from album, CD). Make a laser color copy that can be cut/resized to mount on the collage as you may not wish to "damage" an original picture. Place (lightly tape) desired photos on white paper to make laser color copy.

Pick up Memory Lane Poster Board/Instructions in Guidance Office

Making the collage: Place your "copied pictures on the Memory Lane poster boards. Use your creativity in completing this project. Enjoy your stroll down memory lane as well. Make color copies of collage. You may wish to display in office, dorm rooms, or share with grandparents.

Alphagraphics (10330 N. Scottsdale Rd) is our official "Memory Lane" copy shop. They will offer reduced prices for project.

Color Laser copies: $.99 (8 1/2 x 11); $1.99 (11 x 17)

Laminating charge: $3.50

The finished collage should be laminated for display.

Drop off on Tuesdays, by 5PM. Pick up Fridays, after 3PM.

Questions: call Monica Carpentieri @ 480-367-0752 or Kathleen Tomasullo @ 480-607-6688.

Project Graduation Approaching

April 02, 2008, Wednesday
The Project Graduation Committee is thrilled to hold Chaparral’s post graduation all-night alcohol and drug-free party at F1 Race Factory this year. Plans are in the works to make this Project Grad more fun than ever before! We want 100% attendance, and all seniors are invited and encouraged to attend this "once in a lifetime" event.

The cost for Project Grad is approximately $100 per senior which includes admission to F1, transportation to and from Chaparral, food, coffee bar drinks, games, prizes, cash raffles, and many more surprises! As in years past, we are once again going to the senior class to help defray the cost of this event. If you can afford to pay for your graduate we are asking for your help. However, NO SENIOR WILL BE TURNED AWAY DUE TO INABILITY TO MAKE A MONETARY DONATION. Thank you to those families who have already made a donation.

We need ALL seniors to complete the permission slip and F1 Race Factory Waiver forms. We would like to have every senior’s paperwork on file, even if they are undecided about attending. Additional forms can be downloaded on the CHAPTS website (under EVENTS link), and are also available in the front office at the Receptionist desk. PLEASE TURN IN THE COMPLETED FORMS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!

Questions? Please contact Karen Phelps (480)998-0069, Judy Shano (480) 390-7747, or Paula Ullman (480) 991-2165.

Campus Parking

December 31, 1969, Wednesday
Parents,

As you probably know, our parking lot situation at Chaparral has been one of the biggest challenges this year since we’ve been under construction. We had to reduce the number of available parking places for students to make way for new buildings, so we only had about 300 student spaces available. We created a partnership with the church north of campus to help with the overflow, but parking has remained a problem.

Recently, the situation has been exacerbated by students parking in the student and staff lots on campus without a permit. The offending students are sophomores, juniors, and seniors. This is inconvenient for and unfair to those seniors who paid money for parking spaces. Students who do not display a 2007-2008 parking sticker are not allowed to park on campus during school hours.

In order to combat this growing problem, we will be changing our security and enforcement measures in our parking lot. First, sophomores and juniors who are caught parking on campus will forfeit their right to future parking permits. Additional school discipline may also result as per the Student Code of Conduct. Additionally, illegally parked cars will have a parking violation sticker affixed to the driver’s side window. These stickers are inconvenient and difficult to remove. Finally, we will tighten security at the gate as students arrive.

We ask for your assistance in encouraging your students not to park on campus if they do not have a permit. Parking will continue to be tight until construction is completed. We must work together to meet our parking needs.

Sincerely,
Kyle Ross
Assistant Principal
Chaparral High School

Aims Update

October 23, 2007, Tuesday
Aims retakes will be administered at Chaparral on October 30th (WRITING), October 31st (READING) and November 1st (MATH). This will be a regular school day for all students.

Any student who still needs to meet standards in any area will receive a note reminding them to attend for testing.

Any junior or senior who had already met standards but wishes to retake any area to try for and exceeds standards should sign up in the front office at Mrs. Poole's desk. Students who achieve and exceeds standards on all 3 subject areas of AIMS may qualify for the Arizona Board of Regents Tuition Waiver Scholarship. See www.ade.az.gov for more information or pick up a brochure in the Guidance Office or from Mrs. Poole.

Beginning with Class of 2009, only AIMS results from sophomore and junior year will be considered when determining eligibility for the High Honors Tuition Waiver. Students will need to 'Exceed' on AIMS during their sophomore or junior year to qualify.
