Updates for Sophomores

PSSS Test for Sophomores on Jan. 16

January 06, 2008, Sunday
Parents,

On Wednesday, January 16th, all Scottsdale Unified School District high schools will have a latestart school day. The purpose of this day is to administer the PSSS exam to sophomores. In years past, the school district has paid for every sophomore to take the PSAT in the fall.

This year, however, the PSAT was offered during our fall break, so we could not administer it on campus. Instead, SUSD has paid for our sophomores to take the PSSS (Pre-SAT Scoring Service). This test is essentially the same as the PSAT. Its questions are similar, and it also gives the students and the school an idea of how the students will perform on the SAT. Sophomores who paid to take the PSAT over October break will not participate in the PSSS.

Testing on the 16th will begin promptly at 8:15 am. For those students who will not be testing, first period will begin at 11:32 am. If you have questions about the PSSS, the PSAT, or testing in general, please contact either me or your student’s counselor.

Sincerely,
Kyle Ross
Assistant Principal

Campus Parking

December 31, 1969, Wednesday
Parents,

As you probably know, our parking lot situation at Chaparral has been one of the biggest challenges this year since we’ve been under construction. We had to reduce the number of available parking places for students to make way for new buildings, so we only had about 300 student spaces available. We created a partnership with the church north of campus to help with the overflow, but parking has remained a problem.

Recently, the situation has been exacerbated by students parking in the student and staff lots on campus without a permit. The offending students are sophomores, juniors, and seniors. This is inconvenient for and unfair to those seniors who paid money for parking spaces. Students who do not display a 2007-2008 parking sticker are not allowed to park on campus during school hours.

In order to combat this growing problem, we will be changing our security and enforcement measures in our parking lot. First, sophomores and juniors who are caught parking on campus will forfeit their right to future parking permits. Additional school discipline may also result as per the Student Code of Conduct. Additionally, illegally parked cars will have a parking violation sticker affixed to the driver’s side window. These stickers are inconvenient and difficult to remove. Finally, we will tighten security at the gate as students arrive.

We ask for your assistance in encouraging your students not to park on campus if they do not have a permit. Parking will continue to be tight until construction is completed. We must work together to meet our parking needs.

Sincerely,
Kyle Ross
Assistant Principal

Any junior or senior who had already met standards but wishes to retake any area to try for and exceeds standards should sign up in the front office at Mrs. Poole's desk. Students who achieve and exceeds standards on all 3 subject areas of AIMS may qualify for the Arizona Board of Regents Tuition Waiver Scholarship.
